Third interview

Interview preparations.  (When, where, and how did you conduct and record the interview? Whom did you interview?)    

I asked my friend John the one I interview him in the first time about I want to meet any guy from her country.
So he called one of his friends, he knows him for long time, his name is Mike. We planned for the meeting at the library in the SCSU on last Friday Tuesday

Country report:
Republic of Ghana located on the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, and it is one of the important countries in West Africa. The capital of Ghana is Accra. Became independent from Britain in 1957. an area of 14.159 million. Ghana was called former Gold Coast. The current name was called on the name of the country known historical empire of Ghana.

English is the official language of Ghana and is universally used in schools in addition to nine other local languages. The most widely spoken local languages are, Ga, Dagomba, Akan and Ewe.

Traditional religions accounts for 5.2% of the population. The Christian population also accounts for 71.2% of the total population and includes Roman Catholics, Baptist, Protestants, etc. The Muslim population (17.6 percent of the total) is located chiefly in the northern part of the country.

Its currency is the cedi. Major cities are Accra, the capital, has 10% of the total population. Kumasi is the capital of the Ashanti region. Sekondi has an artificial harbor and was the first modern port built in Ghana. Other major cities include Tema, Tamale, and Cape Coast.

The population of Ghana is divided into some 75 ethnic groups. In the recent census of 2012 the estimated population of Ghana is 25 million (females-51%, males 49). The most densely populated parts of the country are the coastal areas, the Ashanti region, and the two principal cities, Accra and Kumasi.

In Ghana they have many holidays, the most popular holidays are Independence Day, Easter Monday, May Day, Eid-Al-Fitr, and Eid-al Adha.

Ghana is agricultural country Most of the population live on agriculture, the most prominent of cocoa crops. Ghana has a wealth wooden, metal.
Economy and Investment Opportunities: Ghana's economy depends on the export of raw materials such as gold, cocoa and timber.
Britain is one of the largest investors in Ghana.

M: I am good ,, what about you?

I would to by how do like you like the weather in St.cloud's?
M: it is too cold winter. Actually, I heat the weather in winter.
It is ok in the summer, like the weather in my country.

why do you choose SCSU?
M: look St.cloud is small and cheap city, it is good for study.
And I hear the Computer Science is easy in SCSU. But the one I heat about St.cloud is as I tolled the winter, and there is nothing to do for fun.

How long have you been in the states?
M:Three years, I was in cities when I was studying English program in ELS.
After I finished level 10. I came hear to in St.cloud

4-What do you do for leisure?
M: Actually, I love to play soccer, so you goanna see me most the time play video            game (Fifa14) or in the gym. Also I like to hangout with my friends. And during the weekend I go to the cities to work.

5- Did you face any racist since you came here?
M: Unfortunately yes, one day I went to the airport to pick up one of my friend, he is coming from…. When I was waiting him a gay came  to me and he start ask me question( what is you name , how old are you?) after he knows I am Muslim, he called his boss with three guys and they took me to small room, then they started ask me about my friend( his name, his face, which country). After they saw my friend they released me.

6- Could you please tell me about yourself?
M:
My name is Mohamado Diouf, I am 22 years old, I am from Ghana, and I am Muslim. I heat clod weather. I am Temperamental some time. I wish to visit Saudi Arabia specially Makah

7-How often do you communicate with your family back at home?
M: I call my family once in week by Skype, Viber.

8-What is the biggest holiday in your country? Please explain about the holidays (Activities, Food, Date, Origin, and etc,)
M:
as I am Muslim we tow biggest Holiday in my country are Eid Alfter, and Eid Aladha. In these holidays we wake at the Morning to do Eid Pray, after that we go with all my cousin to my grandfather house to eat breakfast. Then we go to Sacrifice Sheep. In the lunch we cook the sheep and eat it together. Also, next day we start visit all my cousin and neighbor.
R: the same thing in Saudi Arabia

9-Do you find it difficult to practice your religion here in the U.S in the same way you do in your home country?
M: some time, but praise be to Allaah there are five Mosque in St.cloud so I can pray any time.

10-Can you tell me some important things in your culture ?
M: my culture follows the Islamic Sharia
R: That’s cool can you explain it?
M: You will see on one in my family doing something incompatible with Islam

11-Whats the biggest difference between American culture and your culture?
M: the Hospitality, in Ghana the people is too kind if you ask him for help they never say no.

12-What's your goals for the future?
M: after I graduate from school, go back to my country, find good job and salary and visit Saudi Arabia in Makah to Alhaj.

My second interview

Interview preparations.  (When, where, and how did you conduct and record the interview? Whom did you interview?)    
   How did you approach people?

This is my second interview, so I have experience. In this time I have to interview people from the same country. My second interview was with one of my classmate when I was in IEC. Last Monday I saw him on campus and I asked him if we could meet tomorrow in the afternoon in the Atwood at caribou coffee. He was happy to do the interview. I asked him if I could record the interview. He got confused, so I told him it does not matter if you do not want . We spend around 30 minutes in interview.


Describe the interview. What did surprise you? How did the interview unfold?
On Tuesday at 11 a.m. we met each other before the interview on Atwood. we start talked  about the school and life. After that when start talked to him about the interview, I could see tension in his face. So, I gave him the to look at the questions if they ok or not.
At 12 p.m. we started the interview with joke to make him feel relax and free.
After that we started ask him the general question about the weather and his free time, to go through the questions about him, his family, religions, culture, country and his goal in future. It was great interview, and he was useful, and he gave a lot of info about is country.

R: Hi. How are you doing?
Ph: I am doing great. What about you?
R: I am good, a lot of homework and quizzes.
R: I don’t know, I am really sorry, but can I postpone the interview?

R: are you ready for interview?
Ph: Yeah, of course.

  
R: I would like to start with Do you like St.cloud's weather?
Ph:I heat the weather in here, it is too clod in winter. As you know the weather in Ghana it completely deferent, especially in my city Accra that is the capital, the climate is tropical so high heat and torrential rain that falls throughout the year.
And the summer in here is nice.
R: yeah you are right

R: why do you choose SCSU?
Ph: Actually, after I graduated from high school in back home I was planning to complete my education in Australia, but I faced some difficulties to get Australian visa. After that, I worked in a company for eight months then I started thinking to come to USA, in that time my cousin was studying in st.cloud, right now he is in the cities.

R: So you mean, you came here cause your cousin!
Ph: not really, but he goanna help me in many things I did not know it befor.
R: cool

R: How long have you been in the states?
Ph: Almost tow years. A year in English program and one year in school

R: How do you feel after tow years?
I feel great, I am dong well in school and I make a lot of international friends.

R: Since you came to USA, did you go back to your country?
Ph: I did not, but I am planning to go this summer.

R: What do you do for leisure?
Ph: Actually, I spend most of the time on campus, during the weekend I like to go the cities to visit my cosine and chilling.

R: what kind of sport do you like to play?
Ph: I like the sport specially soccer. Also every Sunday I play soccer League in the stadium .

R: Did you face any racist since you came here?
Ph: I don't face serious racial problems

R: Could you please tell me about yourself?
Ph: My name is Raphael, I am 21 years old. I came to United State 2 years ago. my major is management. I like play soccer. There are six people in my family my parents, I,  one brother and two sisters. I miss them too much


R: How often do you communicate with your family back at home?
Ph: I usually talk with my family once a week by Skype or phone

R: What is the biggest holiday in your country? Please explain about the holidays (Activities, Food, Date, Origin, and etc,)
Ph: Independence Day is the biggest holiday in my country. The date of Independence Day March 6. For the activities, We usually meet at my grandfather's house each one bring some food like rice and Chicken, Goats.  older people gives some candy to younger children. Young children usually go outside to play and watching fireworks.

R: Do you find it difficult to practice your religion here in the U.S in the same way you do in your home country?
Ph: I face no difficult to practice. It is pretty similar with in Ghana, there are many people believe christian.

R: What’s the biggest difference between American culture and your culture?
Ph:    There are a lot. Things like foods, and dress, and native language. Even the African American have different culture than we have in Africa.    The biggest difference is the communication between the family, in America might they meet each other once a month. But in my country we meet almost every week.

R: What's your goals for the future?
Ph After I graduate from the school I will go back to my country and I hope to find good job, good salary. So I can help my family. also create my own store

Ph: what do you know about my country?
R: I think the soccer national team you guys have good team and I was supporting you in last world cup 2014 you guys played in Quarterfinals.
Also in my team, in back home named Ittihad there was one Ghanaian play in 2005 his name is Prince Tagoe.

Ph: I heard about Ittihad Jeddah, it is good team. And Prince Tagoe is good player, he used to play in Ghanaian national team.

Ph: that all, I am so happy to interview me

How did I approach people to make an interview?
Actually, I got confused who I should interview him. I have many international friends when I was studying in English Program. But I feel shy because, long time I did not talk to them. After that, I remembered one of my best friends. He was my roommate. When I used to live in Cave Hill Hall in last two semesters. His name is John De-Souza. he is from Ghana.

Who did I interview?
John is student in St.cloud state University. His major is international management. John likes to spend his free time to play soccer or play video game

The interview was really nice, and I learned many things about himself, his family and his country. Also he was helpful to help me to do my first interview

J: I am doing well. How are you?

J: Of course

R:  So, I would like to start by do you like the weather in St.cloud? Please explain.

J: To be honest with you, I do not like the weather here in St.cloud especially in winter. Because as you know a weather in Ghana is to hot, but I used to it.

R: Why. How long have you been in St.cloud?

J: Actually, I moved with my family from Ghana to United State in 2006 when I was 13 years old, and we lived in cities. After I finished the high school in 2012 I Submitted my papers to enroll at the St.Cloud state University.

R: why do you choose SCSU?

J: Actually, There is no main reason. But my older brother is studying in here, and I like to be together.

R: What do you do for leisure?

J: During the week I like to stay at home studying and watching TV and during the weekend I go to visit my Mom in the cities or go to the gym.

R: excuse me. Can I ask you private question?

J: yes…

R: You said your Mom. So, where is your dad?

J: Oh actually, my Dad died after we move to the U.S. by six month.

R: I am sorry to hear that

Could you please tell me about yourself?

J:  you can get and look at my ID card and know about me.. hhhhhhh
I am just kidding. There is nothing special about me, except anyone see me when I play video game "FIFA SOCCER" say I am crazy. I spend between five to seven hours per day

R:  How often do you How often do you communicate with your family back at home?

J: As I told you my family live in cities so it is easy to communicate with them. and I say thanks god for that, because I see some of friend how they get homesick.

R: What is the biggest holiday in your country? Please explain about the holidays (Activities, Food, Date, Origin, and etc,)

J: In Ghana We have three biggest holiday
1.     The Ghanaian National Day is going to on the 6 March (1957) to observe the Independence Day of Ghana.
2.     The 1st of January is celebrated as The New Year.
3.     May Day holiday in Ghana to commemorate the successes of the labour movement.
Also, there are two holidays for Muslim people is Eid Alfiter and Eid Aladha
In all of these holiday we celebrate together with my family and make food such is rice with chicken, beef and some soup.




R: Do you find it difficult to practice your religion here in the U.S in the same way you do in your home country?

J:  It was not difficult to practice. It is pretty similar with in Ghana, there are many people believe christen.


R: What’s the biggest difference between American culture and your culture

J: There are many differences between American culture and my culture, but there is really difference in schedule….
 of course you heard (Africa time)

R: no explain it please

J: of course you heared “Africa time”. Africa time is the idea that Africans run on a different kind of schedule and are always late by our standards- for example, I agreed with you to meet at 6 o'clock and I came at 6:20.
In Africa may mean that you will meet you anytime between 6 and 8.

J: After my dad died I pledge myself to help my mom to take care of my family, so I hope I will get good job after I finish school
