State of the environment 1972-2002:
1- Land
Between 1972-2002 , the main driving force leading to
pressure on Agricultural Resources has been increasing food production. In
2002, food is needed for some 2,22 billion more people than
in 1972. The trend during the decade 1985–95 showed. population growth racing
ahead of food production in many parts of the world.
2- Water
About one-third of the world’s population lives in countries
suffering from moderate to high water stress. Some 80 countries, were suffering
from serious water shortages by the mid-1990s, that because by population
growth, industrial development and the expansion of irrigated agriculture. Most
of these people are in Africa and Asia. Lack of access to safe water supply and
sanitation results in hundreds of millions of cases of water-related diseases
and more than 5 million
deaths, every year
