1st Interview

How did I approach people to make an interview?
Actually, I got confused who I should interview him. I have many international friends when I was studying in English Program. But I feel shy because, long time I did not talk to them. After that, I remembered one of my best friends. He was my roommate. When I used to live in Cave Hill Hall in last two semesters. His name is John De-Souza. he is from Ghana.

Who did I interview?
John is student in St.cloud state University. His major is international management. John likes to spend his free time to play soccer or play video game

Interview report:
The interview was really nice, and I learned many things about himself, his family and his country. Also he was helpful to help me to do my first interview



Country report:
Republic of Ghana located on the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, and it is one of the important countries in West Africa. The capital of Ghana is Accra. Became independent from Britain in 1957.Its official language is English, and its currency is the cedi. Ghana was called former Gold Coast. The current name was called on the name of the country known historical empire of Ghana.
Ghana has a population of 24 million, an area of ​​14.159 million.
Ghana is agricultural country Most of the population live on agriculture, the most prominent of cocoa crops. Ghana has a wealth wooden, metal.
Economy and Investment Opportunities: Ghana's economy depends on the export of raw materials such as gold, cocoa and timber.
Britain is one of the largest investors in Ghana.

John: J

R: Hi, John

J: Hi, Rakan

R: How are you doing?

J: I am doing well. How are you?

R: I am good. Thank you.
Do you have time for twenty five to thirty minutes?

J: Of course

R:  So, I would like to start by do you like the weather in St.cloud? Please explain.

J: To be honest with you, I do not like the weather here in St.cloud especially in winter. Because as you know a weather in Ghana is to hot, but I used to it.

R: Why. How long have you been in St.cloud?

J: Actually, I moved with my family from Ghana to United State in 2006 when I was 13 years old, and we lived in cities. After I finished the high school in 2012 I Submitted my papers to enroll at the St.Cloud state University.

R: why do you choose SCSU?

J: Actually, There is no main reason. But my older brother is studying in here, and I like to be together.

R: What do you do for leisure?

J: During the week I like to stay at home studying and watching TV and during the weekend I go to visit my Mom in the cities or go to the gym.

R: excuse me. Can I ask you private question?

J: yes…

R: You said your Mom. So, where is your dad?

J: Oh actually, my Dad died after we move to the U.S. by six month.

R: I am sorry to hear that

Could you please tell me about yourself?

J:  you can get and look at my ID card and know about me.. hhhhhhh
I am just kidding. There is nothing special about me, except anyone see me when I play video game "FIFA SOCCER" say I am crazy. I spend between five to seven hours per day

R:  How often do you How often do you communicate with your family back at home?

J: As I told you my family live in cities so it is easy to communicate with them. and I say thanks god for that, because I see some of friend how they get homesick.

R: What is the biggest holiday in your country? Please explain about the holidays (Activities, Food, Date, Origin, and etc,)

J: In Ghana We have three biggest holiday
1.     The Ghanaian National Day is going to on the 6 March (1957) to observe the Independence Day of Ghana.
2.     The 1st of January is celebrated as The New Year.
3.     May Day holiday in Ghana to commemorate the successes of the labour movement.
Also, there are two holidays for Muslim people is Eid Alfiter and Eid Aladha
In all of these holiday we celebrate together with my family and make food such is rice with chicken, beef and some soup.




R: Do you find it difficult to practice your religion here in the U.S in the same way you do in your home country?

J:  It was not difficult to practice. It is pretty similar with in Ghana, there are many people believe christen.


R: What’s the biggest difference between American culture and your culture

J: There are many differences between American culture and my culture, but there is really difference in schedule….
 of course you heard (Africa time)

R: no explain it please

J: of course you heared “Africa time”. Africa time is the idea that Africans run on a different kind of schedule and are always late by our standards- for example, I agreed with you to meet at 6 o'clock and I came at 6:20.
In Africa may mean that you will meet you anytime between 6 and 8.

R: What’s your goal for the future

J: After my dad died I pledge myself to help my mom to take care of my family, so I hope I will get good job after I finish school

R: I hope so. Do you have any questions for me? I have asked so many of you!

J: ooh no thank you. I am very happy to help you

R: I appreciate that, have good day

J: you too
